Enzymatic Mechanisms of Persistent Soil Organic Matter Degradation Pathways
This research identifies and functionally characterizes novel carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes) and oxidative systems enabling microbial degradation of recalcitrant soil organic carbon. The investigation produces mechanistic understanding of how specific enzymatic strategies overcome chemical and structural barriers to breakdown of complex polymers.
