In Silico Internships

Computational biology and dry-lab internships โ€” work with sequences, structures, and biological data using bioinformatics tools, no wet-lab required.

What is an In Silico Internship?

An in silico internship is a fully computational research experience. You work on real biological problems using sequence databases, structural files, statistical packages, and bioinformatics pipelines โ€” entirely from a computer. No wet lab, no physical materials, but the same scientific rigour.

What you will do

  • Run sequence searches, alignments, and phylogenetic analyses
  • Predict and visualise protein structures using AlphaFold, PyMOL, or Chimera
  • Perform molecular docking and virtual screening for drug-discovery projects
  • Analyse NGS, transcriptomic, or proteomic data using standard pipelines
  • Build small Python or R scripts to automate repetitive bioinformatics tasks

Who this is for

Students from bioinformatics, biotechnology, life sciences, computer science, and statistics backgrounds. A working comfort with the command line helps but isn't a hard requirement โ€” we calibrate the project to your starting level.

What you take away

  • NTHRYS internship certificate with documented computational project
  • A reproducible analysis workflow you can showcase on GitHub
  • Hands-on familiarity with industry-standard bioinformatics tools
  • A portfolio piece for higher studies or industry applications
