Biodegradation Pathways of Petroleum Hydrocarbons
Interns will investigate microbial mechanisms for breaking down complex petroleum compounds including alkanes, aromatics, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. This includes isolating degradative microbes from contaminated environments, sequencing their genomes, and characterizing enzyme systems responsible for hydrocarbon metabolism.
