Interns will apply DNA sequencing and computational analysis to characterize microbial communities in petroleum reservoirs and their role in oil degradation and biogenic gas production. This includes identifying novel archaea and bacteria, analyzing functional genes, and understanding microbial-mineral interactions in subsurface environments.
