Enzymatic Mechanisms of Antibiotic Resistance: Beta-Lactamases and Beyond

Interns will characterize enzymatic resistance mechanisms by purifying and analyzing beta-lactamases, aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes, and other resistance-conferring proteins from aquatic bacterial isolates. Work will include enzyme kinetics studies, inhibitor screening, and structural analysis to understand how these enzymes neutralize different antibiotic classes.
