16S rRNA Gene Sequencing and Taxonomic Classification
Interns will perform DNA extraction from produced water samples, conduct 16S rRNA gene amplification and sequencing, and analyze microbial community composition using bioinformatics tools. They will learn to identify dominant bacterial and archaeal taxa, construct phylogenetic trees, and interpret diversity indices to characterize microbial populations in oil and gas reservoirs.
